Motivation is the engine that drives you to quit smoking. When it’s strong you wake up excited about quitting. If any cravings or excuses come up you easily brush them aside. With it you can stay on track to becoming a nonsmoker. You get there as soon as possible. When it’s weak you struggle however you can still quit but the hard way. Today we start a series of Chapters on how to get motivated and stay motivated.

Get super motivated. Here we offer Motivation Tools that take seconds to 9 minutes for an audio track to get you super motivated. You can use them most anytime anywhere. You have them available whenever you need them or want them. Thinking about smoking use the ‘Stop The Cravings’ Tool to brush the desires away. Thinking about not going to the gym use a Tool to get motivated and go to the gym. Have a break at work do a visualization and give yourself a PEP talk. Tools are very short so you can use them most anytime anywhere

Some people get inspired and have a burning desire to reach their goal. It keeps them going strong. Many times this is due to some inspired motivation, a birthday, a friends wedding, start of summer, some event. Many people want to prove to people perhaps a family member that they can. Sometimes the stress of reaching your goal on a certain time can be too stressful. So have a special time or not. You also can change it at any time.

What is your deeper inspiration to quit? Today is a good day for you to discover your inspirations. First the practical and usual motivations. Write yours down.

QUIT SMOKING EXAMPLE

  • Better health
  • Look younger 
  • Have more pep
  • Smell better
  • Better sex life
  • Impress someone
  • Family
  • and more

Next we want to find a deeper motivation that will inspire you. One that is inside your Inner Mind ready to create a fire of desire within you to quit smoking. One that will keep you going during some tough times. Here is a simple exercise that will help you find yours.

FIND MY OWN

We will use Peace Self Hypnosis. Sit or lie down in a quiet place. To start I want you to say the following to yourself and bring your awareness to that area. Feel peace come over this area. We just want you to relax and clear your mind.

  • My shoulders, arms and hands are peace, or heavy, or relaxing
  • My chest and stomach are at peace
  • My back is at peace. I am at peace
  • Ask yourself
  • Why do I want to quit smoking?Ask the question and then ask it again right away
  • Why do I want to quit smoking?
  • Why do I want to quit smoking?
  • When a reason comes up explore it in your mind and ask the question again
  • Do this 8-10 or more times and rest and wait for insight
  • When done – Say: Wake up to a good day 5.4.3.2.1.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SELF HYPNOSIS 

You can keep your eyes open or closed. Peace is usually closed, strong open, and ‘relax relax’ can be either. First read the self hypnosis script to get an idea of what it is. Then read these lines one by one and follow what is says until you get the script in your head and then let them unfold in your mind. Deep is not needed. 

For Peace or Strong self hypnosis you have more than one choice of words to use i.e. for strong you can use strong or energized either one is good just use the same one thru the whole self hypnosis

WITHOUT SELF HYPNOSIS VERSION 

You can do this without using self hypnosis. Take a pencil and paper. At the top write your goal ‘I quit smoking’ or ‘I am a nonsmoker’. Then write the question “Why do I want to quit smoking?” or “Why do I want to be a nonsmoker. Keep writing it quickly one after the other just like above. Keep writing it until you get some inspiration. Then reflect on this insight. Perhaps keep writing to find if there are more. If nothing comes up try again some other time.

Inspiration comes on it’s own schedule. Perhaps now or when you wake up. It also can just dawn on you. Repeat the exercise as much as you want and you will find yours. The inspiration could be deep in your Inner Mind and take some time to surface. Within you is a fire of desire to quit smoking. Each day this fire of desire gets stronger and stronger. You can do it.

THE SIGNPOST

This one is powerful. Imagine yourself going down the path of your life. Look back upon your life as a smoker. Now see a signpost up ahead with 2 paths. The path to the left is the path of continuing to smoke. Look down this path and see & feel your future as a smoker. The path to the right is the path of being a nonsmoker. Look down this path and see & feel your future as a nonsmoker. Afterwards repeat: I can quit smoking. Can take less than 30 seconds.

You can use this whenever you want. Especially good when you are tempted to smoke. You can also use Peace self hypnosis if you have time. Sit or lie down in a quiet area. Say to yourself

  • Say Peace self hypnosis
  • My shoulders, arms and hands are at peace, or ‘relaxing’, or ’heavy’
  • My chest and stomach are at peace
  • My back is at peace. I am at peace
  • TOOL – Now look back upon my life as a smoker
  • Look ahead and see a crossroad 
  • The path to the left is continuing to smoke
  • See feel my future down this path
  • The path to my right is to quit smoking
  • See my future after I quit smoking
  • See feel yourself skipping down the right path with joy
  • Wake up to a good day 5.4.3.2.1.

SELF HYPNOSIS INSTRUCTIONS

Imagine yourself going down the path of your life. Now see a signpost up ahead with 2 paths. The path to the left is the path of continuing to smoke. Look down this path and see feel your future as a smoker. The path to the right is the path of being a nonsmoker. Look down this path and see & feel your future as a nonsmoker. Afterwards repeat: I quit smoking and become a nonsmoker.

PEP TALK

Before you smoke if you still do or anytime give yourself beneficial suggestions. Just say them or think. Come up with your own pep talk, 3 to 4 suggestions are about right and say one of them 3-4 times or just say all of them as many times as you want. It can just be a few lines such as ‘I can quit’ three times. Here are samples suggestions. Or you can just make them up on the spot like a coach would. 

SAMPLE SUGGESTIONS

  • Smoking sucks
  • I can quit smoking
  • My desire to quit is growing stronger
  • I want to quit
  • I quit
  • Name benefits of quitting
  • Name costs of smoking
  • Smoking is something I did in the past
  • I love being a nonsmoker
  • I can be a nonsmoker
  • I love being a nonsmoker
  • I am a nonsmoker
  • I am so much healthier
  • If I smoke one cig, I become a smoker again.
  • I love waking up with no desire to smoke
  • My family is proud of me
  • By quitting smoking I am healthier
  • By quitting smoking I have more energy
  • By quitting smoking I smell better

VISUALIZATIONS

A Vision is a mental video of what we want to happen in the future, usually a goal. If you are a swimmer it could be winning a gold medal in the Olympics. Or it could be a vision of getting your Math exam back with an ‘A’ on it. If you are a smoker it could be seeing the day you quit.

TO CREATE

Start daydreaming about your goal. Now let the colors and shapes get sharper. Perhaps feel yourself crushing the cig and see yourself throwing it away and quitting forever. Your lungs clearing up. You smell so much better. Use as many senses as possible.

Next see a white line from the present time you to the future you quitting smoking and next loving being a nonsmoker. Now see yourself going down this line to get there. You are connected to the future you, being a nonsmoker. Now add this up and create a mental video of your Vision. It would help to write your vision down. You can use it whenever you want as many times as you want.

TO USE IT

  • Say Peace self hypnosis or just do it without the self hypnosis
  • My shoulders, arms and hands are at peace
  • My chest and stomach are at peace
  • My back is at peace. I am at peace
  • Play your video in your mind
  • Say: Wake up to a good day 5.4.3.2.1

ANOTHER ONE

Imagine the day you quit, or waking up without any thoughts about smoking, or being with your smoking buddies and you not smoking. See feel all the things that will improve your life happening in your mind.

  • Sit or lie down
  • My shoulders, arms and hand are at peace
  • My chest and stomach are at peace
  • My back is at peace
  • I am at peace
  • TOOL -See feel the day you quit.
  • See your future as a nonsmoker

Wake up to a good day 5.4.3.2.1.

BAD HABITS VIDEO – Biting Nails

Perhaps make a video of your hand going to your mouth and you stop it. Perhaps then see the day you stopped biting your nails or a day when you see your beautiful nails. See yourself going thru the day without doing it. Notice how happy you are.

FOR REST & RELAXATION – THE RETREAT

This is an escape from daily life for R&R. Perhaps it’s a hike along Mt Tam or sunning on a sandy beach in Maui. First decide on your place. Develop the colors and shapes. Hear the sounds. Touch and feel. Add your activity: skiing, snoozing, sex, snorkeling. Make a mental video. This is great for a break. You can just daydream about it and use peace self hypnosis.

  • My chest and stomach are at peace
  • My back is at peace. I am at peace
  • Go on your retreat

The day you quit smoking will be one of the best days of your life.
