It’s time to set our goal. Having a specific goal makes it easier. We know what we want and how much to lose. It helps if we formulate them the following way.
Sometimes people set a goal that is not possible for them to achieve. If you are greatly overweight it’s hard to tell what your goal weight should be. So set a goal and you can adjust it at anytime. You can use this formula for any type of goal.
My goal is to have a 33″ waist. I am almost there.
If you have a lot of weight to lose try this. Set your goal to lose 5-10 pounds or whatever you want. If you weigh 200 pounds and want to weigh 135, set your first goal to maybe 195 or 190 or whatever. Then totally focus on this goal. Do all your mental exercises using this goal. If you focus on 135 it may be to far away and seem to hard for you. Once you reach your 195 goal then set it to 190 and work on this one. This method also means you will have feelings of success as you lose.
My goal is to have a 33″ waist. When I started I weighed 248 pounds. I set my first goal at 239, then 229. It is easier to measure your weight than waistline. I am real close. Now I am shifting from pounds to waistline. At 248 I could not imagine myself losing that much weight. And I could imagine losing 10 pounds.
Adding a specific day to your goal can really be helpful. A birthday, a wedding, summer vacation, pick a day. Many times this is extremely motivating. You want to look good and show off your new figure when you go to your friends wedding. This sets you on fire and you get so motivated that you reach it.
Sometimes you just can’t make it. I was going all long fine and on track until I had a number of serious dental problems. It freaked me out. I was anxious. All of a sudden my weight loss program was not that important. I ended up getting dentures. Be flexible. Your designated time may not be your body’s time.
